Welcome to the EditMyPDF Help Center. This page answers common questions about uploading files, AI editing, manual editing, OCR, conversion, compression, metadata, billing, accounts, privacy, and troubleshooting.

Getting started

What can I do with EditMyPDF?

Depending on the feature available to you, you can use EditMyPDF to edit PDFs with AI, manually adjust documents, rewrite text, translate content, clean up scans, extract text with OCR, convert files, compress PDFs, split pages, merge files, edit metadata, and prepare outputs for download.

Do I need an account?

Some features may be available without creating an account. Other features may require authentication, a paid subscription, or usage limits. If a feature asks you to sign in or upgrade, follow the instructions shown in the product.

What file types are supported?

EditMyPDF focuses on PDF workflows and may also support images and common conversion formats such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HTML, TXT, CSV, JPG, and PNG, depending on the route and feature.

What is the upload limit?

Some public upload flows show a file-size limit of up to 50 MB. Actual limits may depend on the feature, plan, file type, page count, and processing route.

AI editing

How do I edit a PDF with AI?

  1. Upload a PDF or image.
  2. Describe the change you want.
  3. Start the AI-assisted editing workflow.
  4. Review the result carefully.
  5. Download the final file if it is correct.

Useful prompts include:

Rewrite the highlighted paragraph to sound more professional.
Translate this page into French and keep the meaning clear.
Update the address from the old address to the new address.
Clean up the wording while keeping the same structure.

Can AI edit image-based PDFs?

AI can help with image-based PDFs because these files are often not editable like normal text. OCR, visual interpretation, and layout-aware processing may be needed. Results can vary depending on scan quality, fonts, layout, and image resolution.

Why did the output change the layout?

PDFs are layout-heavy files. Small text changes can affect line breaks, spacing, font matching, page structure, or visual alignment. Scanned files and image-based PDFs are especially difficult. Review the output and use manual editing for final adjustments when needed.

Is AI output always accurate?

No. AI and OCR can make mistakes. Always check names, dates, amounts, legal wording, formatting, page order, and any important details before relying on the output.

Manual editing

When should I use manual editing instead of AI?

Use manual editing when you need precise visual control, such as moving text boxes, adding images, placing a signature, adjusting layout, or making a small final correction.

Can I add a signature?

If signature tools are available, you may add a signature image or mark where you are authorized to do so. This does not automatically make EditMyPDF a notary, identity-verification provider, certificate authority, or qualified trust service provider.

OCR and scanned PDFs

What is OCR?

OCR means optical character recognition. It is the process of detecting text in an image or scanned page so the text can be searched, copied, extracted, or used in a workflow.

Why is OCR not perfect?

OCR accuracy depends on scan quality, contrast, skew, handwriting, font clarity, page damage, language, columns, tables, and whether the text is printed or handwritten.

How can I improve OCR results?

Use a clear scan, avoid blurry images, crop unnecessary borders, keep pages upright, use high enough resolution, and review the extracted text before relying on it.

Conversion

Can I convert PDF to Word?

Some conversion routes can convert PDF files to Word or other formats. Conversion quality depends on the original PDF structure, fonts, images, tables, columns, and whether the document is scanned.

Can I convert Word to PDF?

Some routes can convert Word documents to PDF. Review the output to confirm layout, fonts, page breaks, tables, and images.

Why does conversion look different from the original?

PDFs can contain complex layouts, embedded fonts, image layers, transparency, vector graphics, annotations, and scanned pages. Converting to another format may require reconstruction, which can introduce differences.

Compression

How do I compress a PDF?

Upload the PDF, choose the compression workflow if available, run the task, review the output, and download the compressed file.

Will compression reduce quality?

It can. Compression often reduces file size by downsampling images, removing unnecessary data, or optimizing the file structure. Choose the setting that balances file size and readability.

Metadata

What is PDF metadata?

Metadata is information stored inside or around the PDF, such as title, author, subject, keywords, software name, creation date, modification date, and other technical details.

Why remove metadata?

Metadata can reveal information you did not intend to share, such as author name, software used, internal titles, timestamps, or workflow details. Removing metadata before sharing a copy can reduce accidental disclosure.

Does removing metadata make a document anonymous?

Not by itself. Visible content, hidden text, embedded images, signatures, comments, file names, watermarks, and external records can still identify a document or person.

Splitting and merging

Can I split a PDF into separate pages?

If the split tool is available, you can separate pages or page ranges into a new file.

Can I merge PDFs?

If the merge tool is available, you can combine multiple files into one PDF. Review page order before sharing the result.

Cloud import and export

Can I use Google Drive or Dropbox?

Some flows may allow Google Drive or Dropbox import/export when you explicitly choose those integrations. Your use of those services is also subject to the provider's own terms and privacy practices.

Does EditMyPDF store my Google Drive refresh token?

For the current Google Drive browser integration described in the Privacy Policy, EditMyPDF does not intentionally store a Google Drive refresh token. The access token is kept only in transient browser memory for the current page runtime.

Billing and subscriptions

Where do I get billing help?

Contact contact@editmypdf.ai with the email used for checkout, the approximate payment date, the plan, and a short explanation of the issue.

Does EditMyPDF store my card number?

Payments are processed through Stripe. EditMyPDF does not locally store full card numbers or card security codes.

How do I cancel?

Use the billing portal, account settings, or another cancellation method made available in the product. If you cannot find it, contact contact@editmypdf.ai.

Privacy and file retention

How long are files kept?

Temporary staging uploads are retained for 30 minutes after last real activity. Submitted run content, prompts, outputs, and processing artifacts are retained for 72 hours after the run reaches a terminal state. Other metadata, logs, billing records, and backups follow separate retention windows.

Is EditMyPDF a storage service?

No. EditMyPDF is a processing and workflow tool, not a permanent storage or backup service. Download outputs you need to keep.

Can I request account deletion?

If you have an account, you may be able to request deletion from account settings. You can also contact support. A pending deletion request may have a 30-day cancellation window, as described in the Privacy Policy.

Troubleshooting

My upload failed. What should I try?

Try these steps:

  • check that the file type is supported;
  • check the file size;
  • reload the page;
  • try another browser;
  • remove password protection if you are authorized to do so;
  • try a cleaner version of the file;
  • split a very large document into smaller parts;
  • contact support with the error message.

The output is missing text. What happened?

The source file may be scanned, damaged, image-based, encrypted, poorly structured, or visually complex. OCR or conversion may not detect every element correctly. Review the output and try a clearer source file if possible.

The PDF is password-protected. Can I edit it?

You should edit only documents you are authorized to access and modify. Some password-protected or permission-restricted files may not work unless restrictions are removed through a lawful and authorized method.

My file is sensitive. Should I upload it?

Upload only what is necessary for the task. Avoid submitting unnecessary sensitive data. For highly sensitive, regulated, or confidential documents, consider whether the service is appropriate for your use case and whether you need a separate enterprise agreement or professional review.
